(More customer reviews)Carols Reharmonized is not done in quite the same form as Hymns Reharmonized.In Carols Reharmonized the words aren't listed on the last verse (it's music only) and the reharmonizations are often on the next page making it impossible to play the traditional version and reharmonized versions without turning a page.The score is in a larger print than Hymns Reharmonized.The arrangements are less hymn like using fewer cords and more individual notes.Some of the arrangements are a little dissident and very jazzy.It is a good book, but I personally didn't find it to be nearly as enjoyable or "user friendly" as Hymns Reharmonized.

PS The font size is large and easy to read for those who might need some visual enhancement.

(More customer reviews)This music is awesome!The beautiful Mannheim Steamroller sounds and beats come to life through this book.The unit I purchased was spiral bound by the seller, which I think is an absolute necessity with these pieces.Some pieces are 8 pages long, with CODA's and repeats.It makes life so much more simple just having it spiral bound.If you cannot find one spiral bound, you can have it done at a local copy center.Also note that this is the REAL sheet music, and not some easy big-note piano!Be sure you are advanced enough to play these songs, or you won't like it.They are hard, but so beautiful!

(More customer reviews)This is a very interesting edition of the 15 Alfred Burt Christmas carols.It includes not only the original music and lyrics, but also images of the original greeting cards which were sent out between 1942-54.Burt died too soon at the age of 33, and included in this book are writings by his wife Anne which tell about the carols and her life with Alfred.Many people already know "Some Children See Him," "Caroling, Caroling," and "The Star Carol," but "All On A Christmas Morning" and "Come, Dear Children" are just as great.Burt was the son of an Episcopal rector, but he was also influenced by jazz, so you find both hymnody and modern harmonies in his work."The Star Carol" is not only his masterpiece, it is also one of the greatest carols ever written.

Worship Solos: for Flute (Instrumental Folio) Review

(More customer reviews)Overall, I'm enjoying this book and CD. Most of the music is easy enough for an amateur (I played for a few years in jr. high and high school, then took an 18-year hiatus before joining the church orchestra recently). I don't think there's a single note in the sheet music above E on the treble clef. At the same time, these arrangements give an amateur a good workout, as there aren't a lot of breaks in the solo music, and there are several sustained notes.

That said, other than the endurance factor, the music isn't very challenging. And the tempo on the songs is kinda slow, especially for a trumpet solo. I'd like to see a faster tempo, at least for some of the songs. I'd also like to see a mixture of skill levels represented--not professional level or anything, but something a little more challenging than whole, half, and quarter notes all the way through.

I like the book and do not regret buying it. I'd also like to try the Praise Solos for Trumpet by this same publisher. But I'll probably just borrow that one from a friend instead of paying for it.

Alfred's Basic Adult Christmas Piano Book Level Two (2467) Review

I am playing Alfred's Basic Adult Level 3 book already and yet I still have some difficulties in some of the pieces, however most of the other songs are relatively simple, with the left hand usually having one note per beat like "We wish you a merry christmas". One song, "We three kings.."has mostly triad notes for the left hand but it is very basic. Some other are combination of both and with some arpeggio pattern(broken notes) for the left hand.

The Vince Guaraldi Collection: Piano (Artist Transcriptions) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this together with Vince Guaraldi - Greatest Hits, both containing a lot of songs I really wanted to play on the piano myself. That combination has allowed me to hear what Vince played while also reading through the music to see just what it is he played. Without exception, I've found the written music exactly true to what Vince recorded, including pick up notes, tricky min-maj-min progressions, arpeggios, diminished 9th chords, and what-not, and it has made some previously unapproachable passages much easier to understand. I've also been able to use the book as a sort of learning tool, getting a feel for what a jazz musician really tries to accomplish when he sits down and plays a piece. I would like to have seen some fingering indications included, and without those, I think some beginners will not be able to do much with this work. And personally, I didn't find the performance notations particularly useful ("laid back" doesn't really convey much to me), but like I said, I also purchased a CD of Vince's music, so I already have an idea of what sort of sound I want to achieve. Other than those two minor points, I can't find anything wrong with this edition. The binding is "lay flat" perfect bound, so the pages stay glued together but pull away from the spine, allowing this book to retain a crisp appearance and feel even after the pages are pulled open on a music stand. Guaraldi fans and aspiring jazz pianists will gain a lot from this work.
