(More customer reviews)I must admit, I've never owned a Geddes book before, nor have I looked at them in the past. I bought this wonderful CD/DVD/Book combination purely for the sake of Celine Dion's involvement. If not for her, it would not be on my bookshelf. Yet, I find Celine is only featured in less than 25% of the book, and I still find myself adoring the whole of this confection.
In regards to the CD, in response to the reviewer who cited this as a rehashing of recordings from past Dion releases, it is nothing of the sort. With the exception of Track 8, "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", which regretably is the same recording found on the 1999 "All The Way..." compilation, the remainder of the songs found here are exclusive to this release. Believe me, I would know, I have the pleasure to own all Celine's releases in both English and French.
As far as the DVD goes, as a lone release it might seem a bit inadequite, lasting just over 21 minutes, yet as a companion to this magical book, it is utterly perfect, giving the viewer a gracious insite into the collaberation of Anne and Celine which brought forth this work which radiates both of these accomplished, respected ladies' devotion to children, and the Miracle that children are.
In looking at the book itself, there are no words to describe the depth of color, and clear detail, and respect each image has obviously been given. Each of these precious hopes for our future look fully at peace and beautifully positioned in each of the nearly hundred images found in this huge volume. In regards to the pictures featuring Dion, her own maternal instincts and love for these babies seems to radiate from the printed page. Yet when Celine is present, she seems to not in the least upstage the tiny beings she is suppoerting, instead your attention is first drawn to the innocent miracles she holds tenderly, and then to Dion herself.
This work is a purely perfect collaberation, and wonderful product for anyone. This is not only for the expecting mother, new mother, or grandmother, this is simply for anyone who loves life and the miracle of its beginning.

I remember a lot of these songs from watching Sesame Street growing up. The accompaniment varies in difficulty. The book is hard to keep open on a music stand.

Children's TV Songs (Easy Piano) Review

(More customer reviews)"Children's TV Songs" features many themes from children's television shows, including "Mister Rogers Neighborhood, "Blue's Clues," "The Book of Pooh," "Bob the Builder" and "Bear in the Big Blue House." It has lyrics and piano notes for all of the themes except "Linus and Lucy" from "Peanuts" (which has no lyrics.) It's worth noting that the Blue's Clue's "Theme" in this book is actually just the "Hear a Pawprint" song from one of the albums. The actual "Blue's Clues" theme ("Another Blue's Clues Day") isn't heard until the fifth season of the program, which came out after this book was made.The variety of shows in this book is excellent. However, the quality of this book is dragged down by the obvious inaccuracy of some of the lyrics. For example, on "Welcome to the Blue House," where Treelo shouts "Whoop-te-do!" their lyrics read "all brand new." I know it's hard to understand what Treelo's saying sometimes, but that definitely cannot be construed as "all brand new." Another is on the theme for "The Book of Pooh," at one point it reads "I know my friends here," when the actual line is "And all my friends here."

I can't vouch for the accuracy of the piano notes, as I don't have a piano.

The book and the CDs aren't strictly designed as a package, but there is probably about 80% overlap between the songs on the CDs and those in this volume. The performances on the CDs are very good, by the way. Anyhow, the combination provides many hours of useful and enjoyable practice, especially if you are almost ready to play along with others.

The Vince Guaraldi Collection: Piano (Artist Transcriptions) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this together with Vince Guaraldi - Greatest Hits, both containing a lot of songs I really wanted to play on the piano myself. That combination has allowed me to hear what Vince played while also reading through the music to see just what it is he played. Without exception, I've found the written music exactly true to what Vince recorded, including pick up notes, tricky min-maj-min progressions, arpeggios, diminished 9th chords, and what-not, and it has made some previously unapproachable passages much easier to understand. I've also been able to use the book as a sort of learning tool, getting a feel for what a jazz musician really tries to accomplish when he sits down and plays a piece. I would like to have seen some fingering indications included, and without those, I think some beginners will not be able to do much with this work. And personally, I didn't find the performance notations particularly useful ("laid back" doesn't really convey much to me), but like I said, I also purchased a CD of Vince's music, so I already have an idea of what sort of sound I want to achieve. Other than those two minor points, I can't find anything wrong with this edition. The binding is "lay flat" perfect bound, so the pages stay glued together but pull away from the spine, allowing this book to retain a crisp appearance and feel even after the pages are pulled open on a music stand. Guaraldi fans and aspiring jazz pianists will gain a lot from this work.

(More customer reviews)This book is great in three ways: First, the music itself is first rate.The arrangements in the book are the real thing and are quite a bit more difficult than the "easy" piano versions.Second, there are great-looking comics on most every page, which makes it a joy just to look at.Lastly, there is a lengthy history of Peanuts and how Vince became involved with it.
The only aspect keeping this book from a 5 rating is the binding.The book wouldn't lay flat on the piano, which made it practically impossible to play.I brought it to Kinko's and got it spiral bound for about $4, and now it works great.Poor thinking on the publisher's part, though.

It's a VERY nice songbook that includes 25 of her easy-to-play favorites. I especially like that it includes strumming patterns for guitar. There are activities, too, but I don't really use those. But I could see how classrooms might. Also included in this book is an "instrumental sing-along backing CD" with karaoke versions of several songs.
