If you want to put it in front of you at the keyboard to play and sing, the print is too small to use. If you are going to use a fake book, buy the bigger version of this same book. If I had it to do over again I would not purchase this book.

(More customer reviews)I played a few of the songs on guitar, and the chords seem correct but could they make the type any smaller?I don't think so!If you don't have the music right up close and with good lighting, a person (especially over 40!) can't hope to be able to enjoy using this book.

I was very disappointed--great selection of songs, but no hope to be able to use the book in a party environment.

I specifically wanted to learn to play Barney Kessel's "On a Slow Boat to China" as it appears on the 1954 Barney Kessel album, Kessel Plays Standards. The transcription is dead on and I am happily soloing to my heart's content. The CD play-along backing band is fun to jam with. Well worth the money.

The lyrics are totally wrong for some of the songs.One major song with multiple lyric errors is "I Am The City."This is a song which I've never seen in any other folio so I had to have this folio for the music.But the lyrics are laughable.Who came up with some of these?

I recommend it if you'd like to be able to play great-sounding songs of ABBA, but ignore the lyrics.

(More customer reviews)I really just wanted the sheet music to Pasta Blues but this contains an amazing collection of Joe's work.The sheet music is as accurate as anything I've seen.The TAB supplied is very good as well, although in a number of places I can find fingerings for the same passages that work much better for me.As always, if you can read music treat the TAB as a guide.I've been happily working through this book for over a month now.

Note that some of the songs you can't get as audio clips online, so you'll need to buy some old CD's of Joe's.

The Easy Fake Book Review

(More customer reviews)This is a "Fake Book", which means a single staff of somewhat simplified music."Easy" in "C" means that Hal Leonard has transposed it to C, which is most common instruments (piano, flute, harmonica...)It does NOT include tabs or frets, you do need to read music, but you don't need to parse key signatures.

Fake books are used for several things.Professionals use them to help them quickly "fake" knowing a song.A decent musician can sight-read them and sound convincing. Beginners (or less serious musicians) use them because you can enjoy playing a song you recognize without having to deal with key signatures and changing ones, odd timings and very complex bits.The cost is that some interesting parts may be simplified out and, if you play piano, you're only going to have your right hand busy; you'll have to fake with the left.

This book has a wide variety of great recognizable songs, though few current ones. Mostly old standards, few by way of rock.It's great to play to and to learn from, but if you're learning you'll eventually want a more comprehensive book, once you can take on the trickier bits.That doesn't mean you don't need this, just that eventually it will help you outgrow it.Professionals should jump right to the Ultimate Fake Books, also on Amazon.

Classic Rock Fake Book - 2nd Edition Review

And there's no tabs and songs are in their actual keys, so you need to read music.But if you do and either are good at theory or play a non-chording instrument, they're fantastic.

This book has a very impressive selection of songs, but "Classic Rock" doesn't describe it.More like "SuperHits of the 70s and 80s".There's some rock, some pop, some glam, a pretty wide variety of stuff people will likely request or that you might enjoy playing, but it's not all "rock" and certainly not "classic rock" - it's got songs from Heart, Bon Jovi and Jefferson Starship, fer cryin' out loud!Very playable stuff.

I enjoy this book a lot.I also enjoy the Disney Fake Book and the Ultimate Fake Book; there's not much overlap between them.The breadth of styles (again, it's not all classic rock) is a nice touch, and most of the songs were really big hits at one time. There are some omissions and excesses.No Dire Straits, but 22 Beatles songs.Six Elton John, but no Candle/Funeral for a Friend?No Led Zeppelin but FOUR Lennon/Ono (and one Lennon solo) songs?But on average it's a great collection.

It's Easy To Fake Acoustic Guitar Review

(More customer reviews)If you're getting tired of strumming your same old C, F, G, A ... trying to pick out songs, stuck in a rut, then this is a great big step in your acoustic guitar playing.
This isn't a big "how to" book, nor does it have any complete songs or big music theory. But it's so funny and relaxing, you'll have no problem learning a bunch of fun stuff. One short page per example. Like where to put your fingers to sound like you know more than you do, and the author's always hilarious examples of things to play when testing out a guitar at the shop to make people turn around and think you really know what you're doing. Seems to work! Funny thing is, you actually do learn a lot of stuff. Some of the changes and patterns in here I played and then said, "Wow -- that sounded really cool." You'd be all the way to Book III, Chapter 9 or wherever in most books before they thought you were ready for it. But you're just "faking," remember?
If you're an "upper beginner" or intermediate guitar player, this little book has a lot for you. Way more fun than nearly all "how to" books.
Well organized, funny drawings, great stuff. A keeper.
