Worship Solos: for Flute (Instrumental Folio) Review

Worship Solos: for Flute [Paperback]
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall, I'm enjoying this book and CD. Most of the music is easy enough for an amateur (I played for a few years in jr. high and high school, then took an 18-year hiatus before joining the church orchestra recently). I don't think there's a single note in the sheet music above E on the treble clef. At the same time, these arrangements give an amateur a good workout, as there aren't a lot of breaks in the solo music, and there are several sustained notes.

That said, other than the endurance factor, the music isn't very challenging. And the tempo on the songs is kinda slow, especially for a trumpet solo. I'd like to see a faster tempo, at least for some of the songs. I'd also like to see a mixture of skill levels represented--not professional level or anything, but something a little more challenging than whole, half, and quarter notes all the way through.

I like the book and do not regret buying it. I'd also like to try the Praise Solos for Trumpet by this same publisher. But I'll probably just borrow that one from a friend instead of paying for it.

Guitar/Flute Duets MFM 69 (Classical Guitar) Review

Guitar/Flute Duets MFM 69 [Paperback]
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This two-book set (one for guitar and one for flute) has the sheet music of 47 duets for intermediate players.
`Guitar and Flute Duets'is an excellent and long-lasting value, especially if you play the flute and have a classical guitar player in the house, or of course vice versa.
I'm anintermediate player resuming after many years of inactivity: I found Icould play many of the Bach, Mozart and Beethoven pieces in the collection.None were too easy to be boring, and some were just beyond reach at first.I also enjoyed the Dowland, Handel, and there's a really great slow sensualCorelli piece too.
There are also pieces byPurcell, Telemann, Chopin,Schubert, Granados, Tarrega and others, some waltzes and Spanish pieceswhich we haven't played at all. I'm just mentioning them so you can get anidea of the range of music in the book.

Berbiguier Eighteen Exercises or Etudes for Flute Review

Berbiguier Eighteen Exercises or Etudes for Flute [Sheet music]
Average Reviews:

Excellent exercises/etudes, which can be used for daily practice. Not for a beginner, but not for very advanced, either, which suits me fine. I like the way the music is challenging but not defeating--not dismaying. It rather builds as the book progresses, without making a big deal about it. Subtlety helps.

Claude Bolling - Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio: Set of Parts/CD (Book & CD) Review

Claude Bolling - Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio: Set of Parts/CD [Paperback]
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I consider this piece a mandatory one in the repertoire of any serious flutist, as it is perhaps one of the first examples of "crossover" music between classical and jazz styles. The recording itself was a platinum record during the 1970's. The recording is still available so that the written music can be followed easily, and if you are fortunate enough to have a good pianist to follow, you will find the music fun and not so difficult to play, if you are an intermediate or advanced flutist.

The CD can be purchased alone, for those who already own the book, and a book/CD pack is also available for those purchasing this for the first time.
