(More customer reviews)...I can't help but think that slowing the tracks down on the CD would have made it easier. Also, Perrin doesn't spend much time explaining the actual promised "breakdown" of Slash's work - the full title of the book is THE TECHNIQUES OF SLASH: THE BEST OF GN'R, but the title seems to change throughout - sometimes it's a demonstration of Slash's techniques, sometimes it's just tabs of their best songs with little explanation.

For example, he notes the "power strumming" for Civil War, but doesn't give any advice on how to strum the opening, which is in my opinion the hardest part.

It's still a good book and very useful because it contains accurate transcriptions of the songs, and many of them are indeed their best. However I also bought a tab book for Appetite for Destruction - the only bonus here is a few Use Your Illusion tracks and a CD, because the "tutoring" they promise on the back cover isn't exactly very helpful.

Also, don't be fooled by the back cover - November Rain, Bad Obsession and various others that are listed are NOT transcribed; brief solo passages are contained within a section called "Signature Slash Licks," which basically means you learn to play part of the November Rain solo, NOT the entire song (as I was lead to believe).

There's so much Appetite content in this book, I feel as if I paid twice for the same thing! But at least it has _some_ UYI songs, such as Yesterdays, which is fairly easy to play.

However also be aware that this is very hard - the solo for Sweet Child O' Mine is the hardest solo I've ever played, and they don't make it any easier with the CD. (Listen to how fast it goes!)

Good book, not perfect though.

King handing off songs to each other, you've got twice the value of most normal blues songs.And this book puts out double the value that way.Just flip this one open to DAYS OF OLD and watch these two six-string storytellers weave the tapestry tight on this shuffle.If you'd like to "see how it's done", then pick up this book.

To me, the only thing that could make this any better would for the album to have included my two favorite guitarists - Carlos Santana and Henry Garza of Los Lonely Boys - in a four way demonstration of skill; and, of course, for this book to then have the four-way view of the action on stage!

Pick up a copy - this is a good one.

The book tell you how to tune each string, (each song has a capo on fret 2), play with tabs or with actual note reading, correct lyrics, and the notes for the vocals. This was a great buy and I plan on buying other tablature books with the same type of logo as sen on the top left.

(More customer reviews)This is a very thorough book of transcriptions from the Apostrophe album.Every guitar and vocal part from the album is included, and from what I can tell, the transcriptions are right on the money.
If you enjoy learning Zappa music on guitar, you probably like to try the non-guitar parts too.This book includes tons of marimba lines, and lots of the more prominent keyboard and horn parts too, all in both standard notation and guitar tablature.Last but not least, Jack Bruce's bass part on the title track is in here as well, solo and all.While there are Zappa albums I enjoy more than Apostrophe, there is a ton to learn from studying any of Zappa's guitar music.And this collection provides lots of of challenging, fun music to learn - I'm knee-deep in the interlude from "St. Alphonso's Pancake Breakfast" as we speak.Man, Zappa's music really is amazing! Now if we could just get a similar book for One Size Fits All or Joe's Garage...

The CD gets you going with the rhythm and the TAB notation makes it easy to find the fingering. That said, it is not a begining book; the music is transcribed pretty close to what you hear from the greats.

I have taken the time to compare the works in the books to their original counterparts and have found that they have simplified.In some cases I disagree with the revisions but in all, when played, they sound fine, and are relatively easy to complete. If you need it fast, like I did, then these transcriptions are easy enough and sound good enough to fool the average listener.

There is nice variety from easy ones that he can read right from the list, to lots of difficult ones that he'll keep working on. Anyway, he loves this book and I love listening to the nice music.
