(More customer reviews)...I can't help but think that slowing the tracks down on the CD would have made it easier. Also, Perrin doesn't spend much time explaining the actual promised "breakdown" of Slash's work - the full title of the book is THE TECHNIQUES OF SLASH: THE BEST OF GN'R, but the title seems to change throughout - sometimes it's a demonstration of Slash's techniques, sometimes it's just tabs of their best songs with little explanation.

For example, he notes the "power strumming" for Civil War, but doesn't give any advice on how to strum the opening, which is in my opinion the hardest part.

It's still a good book and very useful because it contains accurate transcriptions of the songs, and many of them are indeed their best. However I also bought a tab book for Appetite for Destruction - the only bonus here is a few Use Your Illusion tracks and a CD, because the "tutoring" they promise on the back cover isn't exactly very helpful.

Also, don't be fooled by the back cover - November Rain, Bad Obsession and various others that are listed are NOT transcribed; brief solo passages are contained within a section called "Signature Slash Licks," which basically means you learn to play part of the November Rain solo, NOT the entire song (as I was lead to believe).

There's so much Appetite content in this book, I feel as if I paid twice for the same thing! But at least it has _some_ UYI songs, such as Yesterdays, which is fairly easy to play.

However also be aware that this is very hard - the solo for Sweet Child O' Mine is the hardest solo I've ever played, and they don't make it any easier with the CD. (Listen to how fast it goes!)

Good book, not perfect though.

(More customer reviews)All the history is interesting, but that's about it. All the tabs are slightly wrong. They sound close, but not quite right. It seems to me that this book is for beginners as everything is tabbed to be easier than the real way, which is really noticable in the solos, where in some cases every other note is left out just to make it more playable. All right for beginners, but if you really want to play KISS songs, don't get this.

(More customer reviews)I find this sheetbook quite useful.Needless to say, if you don't have the album don't bother with it.However it contains some fine music and it is excellent excercise too. Still I find a repeating problem with all ofSting's sheetbooks.They all seem like adapted versions of the songs, nothow they're really played.So if you find the bass riff in the begginingof "Fields of gold" unlike the original, it is because it isoriginally played by the horn, and so on...Still, It's worth it.

Get back to those days when playing the piano was FUN! with titles like November Rain, 14 Days, Don't Cry.. and more this book is EXCELLENT! As soon as I got it, I went to my friend's house, picked up the guitar, my friend came over, and we played songs from this book over an hour. Thank you Guns N Roses and Thank You Mark Phillips who made this book fun and easy to use.

I was tremendously disappointed, I already have excellent recordings of big band tunes! This is labeled a "Play-Along" which would indicate music minus drums. Perhaps even like the Rock books in this series with one example track with drums and one performance track without drums. How hard would that have been!!! Really feel shisted by Hal Leonard on this one. ITS NOT A REAL PLAY-ALONG! Save your money and buy a great recording of one of the great old big bands!
