(More customer reviews)This is a pretty fun rhythm book. Before I purchased this book, I was searching around for a book to improve on rhythmic skills. This is a good book to start off.

I need to mention that the accompanying CD don't come with the full track of every single rhythm presented in the book, but on every first rhythm pattern on every page.

I would definitely encourage music lovers, be it pianist, drummer, guitarist, etc..to purchase this book as it will definitely will improve your rhythm reading.

This book is for beginners till advance players. So, it's really a book worth keeping in your shelves !!

(More customer reviews)I read this maybe 5 years ago after a friend suggested it.I hadmentioned at the time how much I had loved Stephen King's The Stand and myfriend suggested I would really enjoy this as well.At the time I doubtedanything could be as epic and grand as The Stand was but after reading theentire book in a day or two I realized I was very wrong.The way Barkerbrings the characters to life is wonderful and I can not begin to describehow well paced the book is.You are constantly wanting to read further anddiscover what lies on the next page and what great thing will happen tothese characters you feel you know.The book is a very long one but youwill be unable to tear yourself away and will fly though it much as I did. If you enjoy King or Koontz at all you will love this book and wonder whyyou haven't read it before.

(More customer reviews)Well, I *am* a piano player and Steely Dan fan who bought this to see what the heck they are doing on some of these songs.If you're an intermediate piano player who is looking for melodies and a reasonably decent sketch of how the song goes, this is the book for you.If you're an advanced player, or a jazz fan, or want to know *exactly* what kind of chord voicings are being used, you might be disappointed on some songs.(Not all songs; some transcriptions are better than others.)The guitar chord listings are the most accurate -- if you follow those rather than the staff, and are familiar with jazz voicings, you can pretty much figure it out.I knew that going in, and I've still found the book worthwhile because figuring out all the A7+(b9) chords by ear gets old quick.

(More customer reviews)If you're used to getting Beatles chords from the internet, save yourself a lot of time, effort, and printing and get this book. Its format is excellent, and the fact that the original keys are used makes the song sound right from first chord. There are almost no errors in placement of chord symbols, and the chord diagrams before each song means you're going to be playing the right form of each chord listed.
All that could be added to make it absolutely perfect would be the signature licks or intros, but often you can work these out from the intro chords given.
I have worn this book out, figuratively. It's the best value for the buck I've ever come across. It even helps you appreciate more the creativity the Beatles showed in their songwriting.
There is no way to be disappointed as long as you understand that this one if for chords and singing the lyrics; it only does that but it does it perfectly.

(More customer reviews)If you're like me, you'll find this book really handy. The format includes only the chords and the lyrics. I'm an experienced guitarist, so I only want the bare bones of a song. I rarely have to turn the pages since most songs fit on a couple of pages (lyrics are hard for me to remember for some reason). The chord changes are placed above the lyrics, so if you know the song, it's easy to make the changes at the right time. So far, all of the songs I've played are in the correct key, but I've only played a dozen or so from this book. The Chord Songbook series has been a real productive one for me. I love 'em. Especially the Beatles Complete Chord Songbook. I've learned more about pop song structure from these books than any other material. Chord diagrams are at the top the every song title page, in case you need them. Songs are in the correct key unless a capo is required. While I don't use these songbooks to learn new material very often, I do use them to play songs I'm familiar with. So, if you want to play songs without having to turn pages for lyrics and tabs, you will probably like these. Happy guitaring y'all.

In my opinion several of those pictures are the Beatles' best. It is also very interesting to read Dezo's comments as to where and when the pictures were taken. He was their first official photographer. Great memories, great book!

(More customer reviews)When I call the book Gigantic, I'm not referring to its physical size, which is quite modest.I'm talking about its intent and accomplishment.

Writing about classical music is difficult.Much of the terminology is unfamiliar to most readers, and there's always the temptation to go in one of two unwelcome directions: either over-popularizing the subject or being dry and academic.The effective path lies along a fine line between those two extremes, and David Hurwitz walks that line beautifully.I'm so impressed by this treatise on Sibelius that I'm going to immediately start collecting the rest of his similar books on Dvorak, Mahler, Haydn, and anybody else he's covered that I don't know about yet.

Although the market for a book like this one must be incredibly narrow, Mr. Hurwitz has waxed expansive and entertaining.His insights into the composition techniques employed by the Finnish master are unparalleled.The illustrative samples on the two included CDs are both wisely chosen and luminously recorded-- bravo!

I should probably explain that I consider myself somewhat of an expert on Sibelius and his music, having studied both the composer and his output for well more than fifty years.David Hurwitz, who is considerably younger than I am, has nevertheless studied these subject even more deeply than I have, and his analyses and evaluations ring absolutely true.From now on, when people ask me about Sibelius, I will quote Hurwitz rather than myself!

For anyone familiar with the jargon of classical music essays and with an interest in the subject, this book is a godsend.I had high expectations for it, and it exceeded them.

After seeing films like THE PLAYER and talking to aquaintences who likepredictable movies with happy endings, I figured the big studiosdiscouraged original, thought-provoking films. But this book shows how theytry to rationalize it. I liked how Jack Mathews tried to be objective andshow both sides and I was amazed at the differences between LA and NYcritics and how they affect films. Talk about too many cooks in thekitchen!
Even if you don't think much of the film BRAZIL, if you loveinteresting films and want to know why it's rare to see one come out, readthis book. I'm sure Terry Gilliam isn't alone in his battles with studiosand critics. If you did like BRAZIL, you'll also get a glimpse of Gilliam'screativity with some of his storyboards, plus you get the entire script ofthe film with some annotations. After reading this book, I got a greatbehind-the-scenes look of not only how a film comes about, but how it getsmarketed to the public as well.
