(More customer reviews)If you're used to getting Beatles chords from the internet, save yourself a lot of time, effort, and printing and get this book. Its format is excellent, and the fact that the original keys are used makes the song sound right from first chord. There are almost no errors in placement of chord symbols, and the chord diagrams before each song means you're going to be playing the right form of each chord listed.
All that could be added to make it absolutely perfect would be the signature licks or intros, but often you can work these out from the intro chords given.
I have worn this book out, figuratively. It's the best value for the buck I've ever come across. It even helps you appreciate more the creativity the Beatles showed in their songwriting.
There is no way to be disappointed as long as you understand that this one if for chords and singing the lyrics; it only does that but it does it perfectly.

Hal Leonard The Best of Eric Clapton Easy Recorded Versions Review

(More customer reviews)If you're like me, you'll find this book really handy. The format includes only the chords and the lyrics. I'm an experienced guitarist, so I only want the bare bones of a song. I rarely have to turn the pages since most songs fit on a couple of pages (lyrics are hard for me to remember for some reason). The chord changes are placed above the lyrics, so if you know the song, it's easy to make the changes at the right time. So far, all of the songs I've played are in the correct key, but I've only played a dozen or so from this book. The Chord Songbook series has been a real productive one for me. I love 'em. Especially the Beatles Complete Chord Songbook. I've learned more about pop song structure from these books than any other material. Chord diagrams are at the top the every song title page, in case you need them. Songs are in the correct key unless a capo is required. While I don't use these songbooks to learn new material very often, I do use them to play songs I'm familiar with. So, if you want to play songs without having to turn pages for lyrics and tabs, you will probably like these. Happy guitaring y'all.

(with an occasional session with a friend cellist) It took me about a year, but I feel fairly competent playing in the Tenor Clef and some of the upper positions.

(More customer reviews)This series is wonderful!Our two-year-old absolutely loves the Baby Loves Jazz series.We bought a few to start out, then ended up buying the whole set.Two months after acquiring them, she is still enamored and requests to listen to them and read them every day.Her favorites?Well, these are the words we hear most often: "Mommy, read Duck and Miles?" or "Daddy, listen to Duck and Miles?"Philly Joe is also high on the list.I recommend them all.The books stand out on their own, but the music is what makes this series really shine.For example, on Duck Ellington's CD, he does a great Monk style on one track, then switches to great impression of Coltrane's classic quartet on the next track, with a very nice McCoy Tyner impression.Lots of variety and high quality make this series worthwhile (though I could have done without Louis Lion's potty tune).Don't forget the Go Baby Go CD as well (a stand-alone CD without a book), which is perhaps a notch above the music on the book CDs.The ABC tune is her favorite on that one.

The Art of Playing Rock Guitar (Guitar Book) Review

(More customer reviews)If you have several books already, and are looking for something interesting and unusual -- this could be what you are looking for. Written, illustrated and published by the author this book has more character than any I have previously encountered in a book (and that's a good thing). The book is looking a little dated now: funny clothes and hair styles in the black and white photographs. The author is rightly very proud of his work (and his playing), but the self-admiration becomes a little insufferable at times. There is some really good coverage of pick-ups configurations and various technical day-to-day aspects of guitar that are not well covered in other books. There is a lot of theory, and the author seems to have spent a lot of time thinking about this and refining his ideas. I haven't found it particularly useful so far, the amount of information (and fairy crude presentation) make it tough going -- but to be fair I did not buy this book to work through -I have other books for that. I bought this book as something to dip into from time to time when I get tired of the other books and magazines, when I need to look at something different. If you are starting out, buy a simpler more straight forward book to start off with -- this could be intimidating. Certainly check this one out later though.

Beatles Favorites (Five Finger Piano Songbook) Review

(More customer reviews)I would elaborate on the previous reviewer's remarks by clarifying that the purpose of this book - and its wonderful companion volume 'The Beatles' Hits'- is not to cover every note of the songs that it contains.Rather, the purpose of the books is to help guitarists to learn the 'fiddly bits' in The Beatles' songs - lead breaks, tricky guitar figures, riffs, and interplay between several guitars.
Being both a Beatles' obsessive, and a guitar player interested in pinpoint accuracy, I have sought out tabs from many sources, online and in bookstores.I have never found anything as accurate as Wolf Marshall's transcriptions. And some of the other books are plain wrong.However, I find it somewhat curious that - having gone to the lengths that he did, of acquiring the same intruments used by the Fab Four in order to make the sound of the accompanying CD Rom's more accurate - Marshall doesn't actually seem capable of copying the style of playing 100% accurately, although he seems to be trying to do so. I find it reassuring that a session musician couldn't cop the feel that The Beatles put into their playing.
The idea of providing music, tablature, and CD versions of the songs is a great one, because it covers all modes of learning. And the way that the CD's are recorded is inspired: Marshall provides versions of portions of the tracks at regular and slow speeds, and within each of these contexts records the instruments on different tracks which can be isolated or combined using the balance control. In practice, this means that one can turn the balance in order to provide backing (drums and bass), eliminating the guitar part(s), thereby allowing one to play along with the backing tracks; conversely, one could eliminate the backing, and just play along with the guitar parts - a brilliant idea.
Marshall also provides fine written and verbal commentaries about each track, and about The Beatles' musical and cultural importance - a very welcome bonus.
I can't wait to get Marshall's 'The Best of the Beatles for Acoustic Guitar'.
Congratulations, Wolf. It's nice to find someone who cares enough to do such a thorough job.

Cello Solos EFS 40 Review

(More customer reviews)I am an adult intermediate level cello student (appr. early HS equivalent).I bought this book for fun, and now my teacher assigns me a piece each week to work on.It is refreshing to actually work on lyrical solo pieces to take a break from the scales and etudes.

Although these seem like a break from the etudes, you still have lots of building and learning material here.They make shifting exercises fun for example.

Plus, it comes with a full piano accompaniement that is so useful for students to play with to check intonation.

My teacher also uses the book to play along on the cello for accompaniement for the same purpose (works really well for the Handel Largo since the bass line in the piano score functions as continuo part for a second cello).Great tunes from opera, symphony, etc.This is a fun book to play from.

One downside is the suggested fingerings.While most make sense, some are sort of silly in the goal to avoid the dreaded random open string.My teacher changes the fingerings when she assigns me a new piece.However, anyone on a level to play these pieces will recognize there are alternative fingerings and can adapt to their own use.
