(More customer reviews)I got this book about 3 weeks ago and already its improved my skills in a number of areas. Everything is organized in such a way that you just automatically progress. The incluion of every scale with chords gives you a good warm-up for every practice.
The really cool thing about this book is it doesn't overwhelm you with theory, but has just enough for you to understand (or remember if you forgot)the basics. I feel that even after you advance you could still use this book as a review and a warm-up. Great for beginners and those of us wanting a a good basis for review or practice. The only thing I wish they would've thought of was to use a ring binding instead of regular book. That way you can lay the book out on the music stand better.

(More customer reviews)This book is awesome. It was first introduced to me by an accomplished classical player, but I'm a metalhead and I love it. It covers all the keys, all over the neck, with lots of great sight reading exercises and drills that are designed (and well designed) by a guitar player for the guitar. Also, there's text about how to go about playing the book, and I can testify personally that if you follow his method, you will quickly learn a lot about the guitar. This is not some hackish "we have cataloged every possible combination of notes on the guitar and therefore we are awesome" book. This is quality advice and teaching from a real player. I have played guitar for over 15 years, in lots of different environments, including studying classical guitar in college with professionals and touring with death metal bands. I can't think of a serious player that I wouldn't recommend this book to (and most of them know about it already).

(More customer reviews)Banjo Chord Finder: Easy-to-Use Guide to Over 2,800 Banjo ChordsI've always been very impressed with Hal Leonard publications till now.This book is a joke.Any banjo player will know that there are a minimum of four chord positions on the neck for each chord.This book shows only two.2800 chords sounds like a lot and it is.However, the layout of this book is of no use whatsoever in my opinion.It's too much bother to send it back considering its price.Maybe we get what we pay for--or even less.Let me add that this is no reflection on Amazon.I still think Amazon is the gold standard for procucts and especially customer service.

It is good for what it is - just a collection of licks in different scales.This is one of the only books I've read that contains licks in these scales.Other books just tell you the scale and that's it.There are only about five licks for each scale.What the book lacks is a complete diagram of the scales on the fretboard, but if you want that, you should get the Guitar Grimoire book.This book just lists the notes of the scale and the harmonization at the beginning of each section. It's a pretty slim book, only 35 pages.It doesn't contain notes on what fingers to use where either.I may be spoiled after reading so many Troy Stetina books, which map out everything exactly for you.Overall, this book met my expectations. Most of the licks are pretty cool and I'll have fun learning all of them and incorporating them into my playing.
