I use this book to teach my students, ages 5-11 how to play piano from the most basic level. It has been wonderful. Not only are the songs fun to play, but a lot of them are tunes that the kids know, which makes it more fun for them.It also incorporates the theory in with the playing, so my students never get too bored!I highly recommend these books to any piano teacher looking for a good book to start their students on!

This book is excellent for young beginning pianists. It takes a slow, step-by-step process to teach notes on the piano, melody, and note names and beats. As a piano teacher who mainly deals with beginners, I love this book and would highly recommend it to anyone teaching children how to play the piano.

Yeah, the kid Loves that he's able to take what he's learned from 1yr of violin @ school &, with the help of this book series, teach himself the piano, BUT........he hates that I'm constantly using them to try & keep up with him. Everything's explained in a beginners' (but not a dummy's), level, & it moves seamlessly from one lesson to the next. Perfect series for kids.(& curious adults)

Teaching Little Fingers to Play More (Willis) Review

As a piano teacher, I was thrilled with the first book in this series, but sorely disappointed by this second book. The kids don't like the music, I think the book is poorly arranged, the songs are unappealing even to me and really an unnecessary purchase. It would be better to move the kids directly to the John Thompson 1st Grade book.

I used this book as a student and still use it for teaching.Pieces are nice and students are challenged to think musically. It moves quicker than some other method books; it covers materials from elementary to early intermediate.Upon completion of the first grade book students can play standard repertoire in the early intermediate level.Students must have completed early elementary level before using this book because this book starts with playing two hands in C position.Emphasize phrasing from the first piece.Highly recommended.

My First Book of Hymns and Spirituals: 26 Favorite Songs in Easy Piano Arrangements Review

My First Book of Hymns and Spirituals: 26 Favorite Songs in Easy Piano Arrangements [Paperback]
Average Reviews:

Bergerac's piano book entitled MY FIRST BOOK OF CLASSICAL MUSIC is excellent and despite the little kids pictured on the cover can be played without embarrassment by adults learning or relearning the piano.Unfortunately Bergerac's MY FIRST BOOK OF HYMNS AND SPIRITUALS is not of that quality. The music is easier and seems more juvenile than the "classical music" volume of the series perhaps partly because of the many pictures (which could be colored in by a child or anyone so inclined) that are used.Lyrics for the first verse of each song are included and "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" has two verses with words in this edition. The songs are all familiar but so simplified they are not that enjoyable to hear or play. There is one sentence of background information for some of the songs which is somewhat helpful but more content would have been nice. This isn't a terrible collection but it could have been so much better.

John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course Part 1 [Paperback]

This book is wonderful to begin teaching young children the rudiments of piano playing. The children are most excited when they have to play their parts while I play the accompaniment. These 'duet' sessions have generated much joy, laughter and fun, which is what music should be to children.

If your child requires more challenging work, I would suggest using this book in tandem with another book like from Michael Aaron's series or John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers to Play".
