Very clean, easy to read score.1000 times better than what comes with the show materials! There are a few errors/differences from the original, but the little bit of time it takes to fix those is well worth the benefit of having such a nice version of the score.

We had to read this for a graduate class but it seems to be a good books for a range of students from upper highschool to PhD depending on how deeply you study the texts.

As my title suggests, this book is a good starting point to the study of Italian classics.

The Unseen Hand and Other Plays by Sam Shepard (Applause Books) Review

The Unseen Hand and Other Plays by Sam Shepard [Hardcover]

WOW! This book is absolutely electrifying.I was first turned on to Sam Shepard from reading "True West", one of his later amazing plays. As I read more and more I thought I had a good understanding of hiswriting:until I read this book. This book contains many of Shepard'searlier plays from the time he first landed in New York and, as hisroommate Charles Mingus Jr. has said "Would go into a room with a reamof paper and come out two hours later with a finished play".If youhave really enjoyed some of Shepard's later stuff, I definetly recommendthis book to give you a fresh perspective on someone who literally turns"conventional theatre" upside down.If you are new to Shepard, you might want to tryhis later works first, only because they are easier tofollow. These earlier works are very much like the "Beatgeneration"- throwing out speeches and sentences without punctuation, with tons of craziness happening on every inch of the stage.Sometimes theplays may be hard to follow, or confusing, but if you really"get" what Shepard is doing, you will love this book.Just bewarned that all the plays are far from conventional theatre. If you are an"Our Town" type of person this isn't for you.If you enjoy Albeeand Beckett, if you enjoy equal parts peace and chaos on stage, then checkthis book out.

Product Description:
It is hard to believe that over 25 years have passed since A Chorus Line first electrified a New York audience. The memories of the showÕs birth in 1975, not to mention those of its 15-year-life and poignant death, remain incandescent - and not just because nothing so exciting has happened to the American musical since. For a generation of theater people and theatergoers, A Chorus Line was and is the touchstone that defines the glittering promise, more often realized in lengend than in reality, of the Broadway way. This impressive book contains the complete book and lyrics of one of the longest running shows in Broadway history with a preface by Samuel Freedman, an introduction by Frank Rich and lots of photos from the stage production.

This is such a wonderful song book and the piano pieces are very easy. My friends and I sit at my piano for hours singing and playing the songs of "Rent" from this amazing book. I've used it for almost all of my auditions and I've gotten wonderul parts! I reccomend this easy-learing piano book for all people who fiddle around with their piano's figuring out the begining of "Seaons of Love!" (Like I did myself!)

Rent: Vocal Selections (Essential Musicals) Review

Rent: Vocal Selections [Paperback]
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The selections in this collection match the selections featured on the RENT - selections album. Unfortunately, this means that many of the best songs in the full score are cut out (including: Light my Candle, La Vie Boheme... I Should Tell You, etc.), because they involve sung dialogue rather than "liftable" songs (songs that work out of context). Another drawback is that in general, songs written for a rock band (featuring extensive guitar) do not transcribe well to solo piano (guitar chords are included in this book, though). With this in mind, however, there is still a lot of good things about this collection. Larson's great ballad-esque songs, like "I'll cover you," "Your eyes," "Without You," and "Seasons of Love" work very well as piano/vocal. Other, more rock-sounding songs such as "Rent," "Out tonight," and "What you own" are still doable. As written they may sound a little awkward, but people who have had experience playing rock piano may find that with a little fiddling with the written notes a decent version can be produced. Even if you don't have experience playing rock piano, if you have more experience playing other Broadway music you can still learn a lot from working with these songs and trying out different things. Other songs included are: "Take me or Leave me," "Another Day," "Halloween," and "Santa Fe." "Take me" didn't transcribe well (esp. the vocal line) due to the bluesy pitches of the song, but the main riff and the chords are accurate. "Another day" contains both the rock elements and the balladesque elements, but the rock elements do not require many changes."Halloween" transcribes faithfully and works well; "Santa Fe" is transcribed well, but since much of it is spoken it is also a little odd. Overall this book is well done. The songs are all faithful in spirit to the album, although at times a pitch is written differently from the orig. broadway cast recording. The song where this is most apparent is in "Seasons of Love" where it appears that the two soloists' lines were mostly improvised. Although I usually prefer for a song's accompaniment to reflect the actual full score, in the case of these songs such accompaniment is repetitive and adding the vocal line (which is actually a very standard practice for vocal selections) was very welcome. RENT has become a part of the modern musical theater canon, and so this book has become necessary for any Broadway-lover's sheet music collection.
