Play Guitar Today! - Level 1: Play Today Plus Pack (The Ultimate Self-Teaching Method) Review

Taught myself guitar in no time.Get the CD out of the book, play along with the songs, learn them (don't cheat by moving on until you have mastered the song just like the CD plays it), and soon enough you'll have mastered strings.Chords take a bit of practice, but once you get those, you feel pretty good about playing guitar. Then its off to level 2.A most efficient "self teaching" method I must say.Addicting almost.

For a basic overview of guitar playing, this book does the trick, but the examples and explanations are not up to par.The CD is okay, but annoying because it all goes too quickly.I learned more from the Mel Bay Chord diagrams than from this book which supposedly explains guitar playing.A good fingerpicking section, but forget about their lead guitar sections, just a bunch of scales, no explanations or anything.

Easy Pop Rhythms Book only Hal Leonard Guitar Method Supplement 2nd edition Review

Easy Pop Rhythms Book only Hal Leonard Guitar Method Supplement 2nd edition [Paperback]

I was looking for a book to use solo, not with an instructor. Unfortunately, this isn't it. While they do include a number of strum patterns at the end of the book, they do not show strum patterns for each song -- you're left to figure it out on your own.

I'd hope that the CD would make that easier but the other instruments sometimes make it hard to hear the guitar part. They didn't do what's sometimes done and separate the guitar on one side and the backing parts on the other side so you can't isolate the guitar.

The chords are the easy part. All the songs are transposed into simple 3-finger chords (C, G7, G, D7, Em, D, A7).

Overall, I'm disappointed.
