However, if you do a lot of music and want detailed information about the minimum soundproofing specs in an apartment building about to be built (so you don't end up at war with neighbors)this isn't the book."Noise control manual for Residential Buildings" by David A. Harris is heavy going, but certainly presents the complexity of the issues in a professional manner.

(More customer reviews)People tend to criticize this book because it's too small and basic. Big deal! It's priced accordingly and the title clearly says"Basic". That aside, the information is as clear and concise and no-nonsense as you can get for this subject. I've read several more "complete" and technical books on the subject, and it was only until I read this book that things actually came into perspective. Believe me, there is no better book to get a clear overview on how to build a small, efficient studio. After that, and armed with foreknowlege, you can get the technical stuff.

These books are about the size of a pocket dictionary, plus it only cost 8 bucks. If you are looking for something that has every detail on the subject just keep looking. If you need something that gives a good overview and makes a good book to throw in a gig bag, this is the book you are looking for.

(More customer reviews)There are a lot of books on setting up and working in a home studio - very few on treating the frequency response - fewer on doing it on the cheap using the room you have.This is such a book.The case studies are useful and after seeing a few, a pattern emerges and the mystique falls away and you realize that its not such a black art and you can do it yourself using various inexpensive materials.I definitely found this to be a great reasource for getting my room response under control while spending just a couple hundred dollars.

This book is a gem.
