(More customer reviews)The Hymn Fake Book is an excellent resource for worship teams & worship leaders who desire to use hymns in their services, but have difficulty reading a standard hymnal's 4-part harmony. Contemporary worship teams will especially appreciate the lead sheet feel of this book (melody line with chord symbols), and classic worshipers will appreciate the true hymnal sound which is captured in these arrangements. These are not contemporary arrangements, but a "lead sheet" approach to the classic hymns. Hymns from different denominations along with 10-15 Christmas carols. Excellent resource!

This book is available all over the Internet with exhaustive details, and does not deserve being relegated to one-star status. An excellent resource for those, like me, with more interest than technical musical skill.

(More customer reviews)This fake book has a very comprehensive listing of old time hymns, traditional spirituals, gospel songs of the past century and some contemporary praise songs.The type-face is small typical of fake books, and songs are crammed in.Lyrics and verses are included, as well as the chords.There is also a reference of guitar chord finger patterns at the end of the book.The entire book lays flat, having the plastic tabbed binding.Songs are listed alphabetically making them easy to find.Very nice reference, and songbook for all "C" instruments, as well as keyboards, vocals and guitar.

(More customer reviews)This IS an excellent book. It REALLY is. I agree with the first person who posted.... HOWEVER .... It seems as though John E. Coates only knows one kind of Rhythm style, and that's the dotted eight sixteenth note tied to eighth note yada yada yada. It's a VERY predictable rhythm pattern, which DOES make it simple HOWEVER .... I think 80% of the music ALL have that same rhytmic feel. So, as you start from the beginning of the book, the first couple are COOL, but then, you start feeling, "Okay, been there, done that, want something new ...." and it becomes boring. I would have tough time playing most of these in a single sitting since they ALL have the same rhythmic pattern.

Change it up a bit. Don't be so predictive.

Just my thoughts ... I DO like it though, don't get me wrong.
