(More customer reviews)The emphasis on all exercises is the correct placement of the fingers of the left hand, and ensuring that the fingers are held down as long as possible.This is in preparation for Kreutzer/Rode.Each exercise addresses a particular left hand pattern/technique.When a pattern is repeated throughout a piece, it is done in a very musical way that makes it very not-boring, and makes each exercise a nice addition to repertoire.The exercises are similar in difficulty and flavor to Kayser.I am a mandolin player, and I like these exercises because they are challenging, melodic and sound great with a pick in place of a bow.

(More customer reviews)I found this book to be a solid work that would be at home on any beginning string player's shelf, or even someone who has been playing for a few years. Though short, I found it to be useful, especially for someone like myself who has never played a string instrument. It explains not just how to care for your instrument, but why the things that you should do are so important. More importantly, it tells you what NOT to do. I think that anyone but the most advanced players can glean a great deal of information from this book.

(More customer reviews)It is mind-boggling to consider that such an outstanding resource is available at such a low price!The selection of worship music is great for the aspiring violinist.All songs are easy enough for the beginning student.

Unlike some of the other Hal Leonard CD/Book sets, this CD does not provide both demo and accompaniment tracks.The melody is played on all of the tracks, but low enough that the solo violin will easily cover it.A different instrument is used for the melody.The CD does not come with a slow-down program either, but such a program is really not necessary with these selections.

If you are an aspiring violinist, then this book should be in your possession; for the exceptional value, there is no reason for it not to be!
