(More customer reviews)Mark Hayes is a master at composing lovely accompaniments that spice up the traditional solos! Many of the pieces are really duets with the piano and voice.Whenever I need a quick Christmas solo, this is the book that I turn to! You won't be dissappointed.The only complaint is that some of the pieces are indeed high! I would rank some of the pieces as high instead of medium high not necessarily because of the individual notes but because of the tessitura. "O Holy Night" is especially lovely with the accompaniment making a well known solo just a little different to make it a great combination of traditional yet new and exciting.

Gospel Classics (Book & CD) (Sacred Performer Collections) Review

(More customer reviews)I love Mark Hayes, but some of his stuff just isn't my style. This book is about 50% my style, and 50% not. However, the 50% that is my style is just incredible. None of the songs are bad, just some I just don't enjoy playing. The CD is great to listen to all the way through.

My favorites are Old Rugged Cross and How Great Thou Art. These are incredibly moving pieces.

For any advanced Mark Hayes fan, I highly recommend this book.

(More customer reviews)I have always been "picky" about the arrangements of Christian hymns and worship songs, because I am a piano arranger myself.This book has THREE things going for it!
1. these are classy, beautifully done arrangements and not disjointed
2. Mark Hayes has just a "hint" of jazz chording which adds to the appeal of these arrangements
3. this particular book is actually three books in one, so you get a terrific bargain!
I use this book with some of my students, as well as for church offertories.This book is at least upper-intermediate to advanced level.I love how he weaves in some classic hymns with newer worship choruses from the last two decades.You will not be disappointed if you purchase this book.
