Solos for the Harp Player: Harp Solo Review

Solos for the Harp Player: Harp Solo [Paperback]

I am in process of moving, so I have not yet begun to really work on these pieces, but I did sit down with it and studied it a bit.I would call this book either intermediate or low intermediate in level. It has great variety in the pieces which is really wonderful for a music book as something to turn to regularly for repertoire.I have the two Chinese pieces separately and one of them is fairly advanced, so this is not a book for beginners, but, as titled, a "soloist" book. Many of these are wonderful for recitals. The price here on Amazon is very good, so this was a great bargain for a classic book of harp pieces which will be a resource for years.

Lennon and McCartney For The Harp Review

My daughter, 14 years old and playing harp since age 6, found these arrangements a great pleasure if somewhat of a challenge tomaster. Beatles music sounds surprisingly good on the harp and has the advantage of allowingher to accompany friends in non-classical repertoires. Sometimes it seems easier to practice tunes more contemporary.......
These are well arranged and suitable for high-intermediate (and above) harpers. Nicely done.

Harp Exercises for Agility and Speed Review

Harp Exercises for Agility and Speed [Spiral-bound]

This book is exactly what it says it is. There are no lessons here - just a wonderful variety of excercises. They are clearly organized so that the harper or harpist can select the drills that are needed or a beginner can start at the beginning and work his or her way through.

Like the previous reviewer, I am a beginner. Harp Exercises is exactly what I was looking for: a book that would develop the skills that the lesson books touch upon in the pieces they present. This book will be useful long after I graduate from the introductory lesson books.

50 Christmas Carols for All Harps: Each Arranged for Beginning and Advanced Harpers (Sylvia Woods Multi-Level Harp Book Series) Review

50 Christmas Carols for All Harps: Each Arranged for Beginning and Advanced Harpers [Spiral-bound]
Average Reviews:

This is a nice collection of Christmas carols, both well-known and some you may not have heard. Its main selling point is that there are arrangements for both beginners and advanced players. It's also in a spiral-bound book, which is a plus for those of us who hate struggling with bindings to keep a book open while playing.

The arrangements are mostly OK, with some noticeable exceptions. The book contains only a couple of accidentals, but the author avoids them in other situations by doing some rather strange arrangements, most noted by me in 'O Holy Night'.Instead of having an F sharp, she repeats a G, which just sounds bizarre to me.Some of the beginner versions are over-simplified, to the detriment of the piece overall.

Chord symbols are included with each piece if you'd like to create your own harmony or play with another instrument.

The book includes fingering notation but my instructor and I both agreed that the fingering was awful. It's the worst part of the book, but easily ignored and modified.

Lyrics are included, but note that for some songs they are lumped together as 'miscellaneous lyrics' where they weren't fit onto the same pages as the music.
