(More customer reviews)I was feeling like a kid at Christmas when I found that the Big Phat Band had a dvd for Swingin' For The Fences.The CD is a real favorite of mine and with all the new technology and the high-definition improvements available for video, I expected another awesome gem to add to my music library.What I felt I got was a real rip-off.

Some may think the music carries the dvd, but my interpretation of a quality dvd is action to go with the music.This collection of still photos as the music plays along is a joke.

I'd suggest Mr. Goodwin talk to the producer of Lee Ritenour's latest dvd release "Overtime" to find out how to put out a product that will give you goosebumps because of quality music and video together!

If I could have given this a lower rating, I would have in an instant!If your thinking about getting this purchase, I suggest just get the cd - the music is awesome.If you want still pictures, don't spend $25 for them.Buy a good magazine!

This book is great and can keep you very busy.By the way, if you want to playlike Art there is a another book, "The Right Hand According toTatum" which has even more transcriptions, tells you how to finger anduse his runs,has some analysis etc. This book could have used a bit ofthat.Good Luck!

(More customer reviews)I found this book to be pretty well written. the author gives an explanation of each phrase, some notes about it and possible variations, and also a brief discussion of the way tatum utilized all those phrases. the book also offers some transcriptions of tatum. But regardless of this, i felt this isnt the way to go: the best way to improve your playing is to transpose these solo's yourself and come up with your way of playing his phrases. Overall, very informative and interesting book about one of the greatest (jazz) musicians of all time

(More customer reviews)For the most part these transcriptions of Art Tatum's improvisations/arrangements are done very well. Chords are listed for each corresponding measure so you harmonically can follow what's going on easily enough. It's very fun to follow Art Tatum recordings on the sheet to have a better idea of what he's doing. My only gripe would be that there is no fingering listed in this book and it's just a transcription of the notes. Yes, I do realize by running through Riccardo Scivales' book "The Right Hand According To Art Tatum" solves a lot of these problems, but it would've been nice to have the fingering laid out in this book. It would save a lot of time in figuring out what the legendary Art Tatum was actually doing with his hands. Overall, I would give the transcriptions a 5/5 but due to the lack of fingering I have to give it a 4/5.
