Here's what this book is:

First, know that Alfred Publishing has a long history of various guitar books that are all derived from the same basic content.Alfred's Basic Guitar, Teach Yourself Guitar, and others actually already recycle much of the same content. Some books have tab and notes, some are just notes. Some have certain quirky elements, and there's some variation here and there.Much of the actual pieces are public domain music, but Alfred's authors did the work of organizing and presenting it.It's a little frustrating how they have the same content in multiple books with slight variations and different titles. But most of the similar books all have the same authors credited (Ron and Morton Manus, and Alfred d'Auberge primarily, among a few others).

Now, clearly in order to capitalize on a particular part of the market, Alfred contacted Ms. Ciravalo and asked if she would put her name on a "Girl's Guitar Method" that was otherwise identical to their existing publications (which are written by Men - although Alfred also publishes some different books by women authors).Since Ms. Ciravalo clearly did not write the exercises or songs or even do much to select them, I don't know if she had much to do with the book or not.Clearly the bulk of the content is directly plagiarized from the other Alfred books.

What makes this book different? There are a few photos of famous women guitarists with short notes about them. The EXACT same butterfly and flower images are stamped on basically every page in the book.THAT IS IT.

This is not just similar content to other method books. It is not just the same old guitar method stuff. It is THE EXACT content from other books, repackaged with flowers and butterflies.I am uncomfortable using this with any young girl because I think it is insulting. It puts them on a different level. The boys can be serious musicians, but the girls have to have special girly stuff. It implies that it isn't normal for girls to play guitar, hence the need for a special method. It doesn't offer anything creative or interesting or truly inspiring. It treats girls as simplistic stereotypes to be marketed to.It is crass commercialism, publisher-supported plagiarism, and a RIP OFF.

Quick clarification: I did not listen to the CD or see the DVD edition, so I don't know what that content is, perhaps there's something unique there.I just looked at the book content.
This gets two stars because the content is actually fine and deserves three stars, but the marketing and plagiarism deserves one star.
