Stefan Grossan's "Early Masters of American Guitar" series are well worth studying. Each book in the series is well laid out and uses good choices in the selection of pieces. These are backed up with informative text that gives background on the artist. Each book also comes with a CD of actual performances by the various artists. The only thing to keep in mind is that the word transcription has a slighly looser meaning in this series.Although each transcription is an accurate rendering of the song, it doesn't give you the song start to finish. That means you don't get all the variations from verse to verse or all the breaks the performmer plays. What the books do well is to lay out the essence of each song.I own the entire series and highly recommend them to anyone who wants to learn this style of fingerpicking.
