(More customer reviews)The 2007 Centennial Edition, 312 beautifully designed pages that include a 32 page color section, is offered in hard cover and soft cover and has a companion CD featuring 12 artists playing a wide range of Larson built instruments on a broad spectrum of musical forms. The last 2 cuts are never before heard tapes of Jimi Hendrix playing his Stahl parlor guitar! The story of that guitar as well as those stories and photos of many other celebrities are revealed in the book. The final pages are short bios of the performers on the CD.
This is not a reprint of the 1996 edition but the 4th in a series starting in 1984 revealing the ever expanding knowlege of the fabulous guitar designs and innovations of the now famous Larson brothers of Maurer & Co., 1900-1944. The Centennial edition adds much in the way of family history going back to their roots in Sweden, historical data including serial number lists for all the brands built by the Larsons, and newly found body styles for the many sizes of guitars, harp guitars and mandolin family instruments. An asset for guitar identification! A brief pictoral and writen history of the guitar, harp guitar and mandolin in America, plus remembrances for Gene Autry, Patsy Montana, Michael Hedges and many others add to the value of this work. A must read for anyone who wants to be in the know about the premier designers/builders and pioneers of the the steel string flat-top guitars of the last century.
