(More customer reviews)Have you ever heard the song "Feeling Good" or "Who Can I Turn To?" They're from this musical!
This musical was my introduction to musical theatre and remains one of my all time favorites.
I bought the original Broadway cast album (CD for those who don't remember albums) because the lead character (Cocky) is performed by Anthony Newley who also directed the Broadway production.
Anthony Newley co-wrote the music, book and lyrics with Leslie Bricusse. (They also wrote the musical "Stop The World I Want To Get Off" and the score for the 1971 film "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory," featuring the hit song "The Candy Man.")
In this all-British production, Anthony's performance is outstanding as Cocky and he is well matched by the fabulous Cyril Ritchard in the role of Sir.
This is a story of the "Haves" vs. the "Have-nots," and we see Cocky struggle to win "The Game" (of Life). Sir beats him in the first few rounds. Will Cocky ever win? Buy the album and find out!
