(More customer reviews)This VCR tape is a good artistic production by guitarists Artie Traum and Diane Zeigler. Numerous demonstrations and tips inspire one to create, improvise and experiment with lead lines garnished with slides, bends and vibrato and well-placed chords. Schematics of specified harmony chords, fretted in the best positions, could be added to the musical scores so that the accompanist may determine the relationship of his notes to the notes in the chords or even attempt to arpeggiate.
The technology of producing tutorial music videos such as this has improved tremendously since this VCR tape was made in 1993 and the artists may wish to bring this recording in line with ambient practices so as a make a good product better! Working with videocassettes on VHS players is not only laborious but it is very susceptible to wear and tear due to frequent play-stop-rewind cycles to aid repetition and learning.
Diane and Artie may not have to add another note to the product but they'll need to engage sound engineers not only to put the entire session on DVD or SVCD or CD but also to create and add tracks of Diane playing alone after each mini lesson. The best way students will learn from this product will be to accompany Diane on their own immediately after they shall have seen Artie demonstrate the proper lead exercise and technique.
As such, the DVD would have to be broken up into lessons - variable-time intervals for recorded separate chapters indicated in the accompanying booklet -- each with two parts, one with Artie's demonstration and the other without. This is a better arrangement than alternatively muting Artie's parts by turning knobs to control outputs at various speakers.

Product Description:
A good accompanist adds depth, sparkle and excitement to a song, punctuating it with improvised lines and well-placed chords, then stepping forward at the right point to take a solo. The trick is to enhance the performance, making a musical statement without "stepping on" the vocalist's lyrics.
Artie Traum has accompanied dozens of top performers, and on this video he shows you how it's done! He provides specific ideas and examples for lead lines, plus how to construct a solo based on a song's melody and how to move freely around the neck. You'll also learn special accompaniment techniques -- slides, bends, vibrato and much more.
Artie is joined by singer/songwriter Diane Zeigler, whose compelling songs and unique chording provide perfect material for soloing on lead acoustic guitar. Each of her original tunes represents a different style, so you'll learn lyrical accompaniment as well as funky blues riffs and country-style licks. Highly recommended.
Songs: "Road He's Walking On," "Cog In The Wheel," "Rock Of Ages."
