If you're a violinist ready for a workout, this is a good one. I have found that the music minus one concerti typically suffer from too slow a tempo. They're a great addition to practice (and of course, fun fantasy) but just a bit too slow. This (I should say these) versions of the Mendelssohn violin concerto break that mold. There are three different versions; a "practice" tempo, a "traditional tempo" and a full-out modern concert tempo; the speed popularized by Heifetz, I think.
It'll take a few times to get used to a couple strange excessive retards and then complete lack thereof in other expected areas-- but overall, it's a fun ride.
